Sixty-six patients suffering from symptoms of ulcer infection were randomly allocated to one of two regimens: one group received lansoprazole, amoxycillin, and clarithromycin for 7 days. The other group received the same regimen plus zinc carnosine for 7 days. Ulcer status was evaluated by rapid urease test, histology and culture at entry and 4 weeks after treatment.
Ulcer elimination was achieved in were 24 of 31 patients in the lansoprazole, amoxycillin, and clarithromycin group.
In the group that also took zinc carnosine 33 of 35 patients (94%) achieved ulcer elimination.
The researchers concluded:
“A 7-day triple therapy with lansoprazole, amoxycillin, and clarithromycin is effective in H. pylori ulcer eradication, but this regimen is significantly improved by the addition of zinc carnosine.”
