Editor’s Note:NAC has been shown in numerous studies to be effective in reducing the toxicity and addictive power of various recreational substances, including cocaine, marijuana, and alcohol.
N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC) was studied in male Wistar rats who were treated with alcohol for 30 days. The study found that the rats who were administered NAC had lower levels of inflammation in the brain. Since brain inflammation is associated with alcoholism, alcohol craving, and cognitive decline, NAC may be a valid clinical treatment in the context of alchocoldetoxification and withdrawal.
The researchers concluded:
“The data revealed by this study points to the validity of NAC clinical evaluation in the context of alcohol detoxification and withdrawal.”
