Berberine Lowers Glucose, A1C, and Cholesterol in Diabetics

Both test tube and human studies have shown Berberine’s effect on high blood sugar and high cholesterol.

This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of berberine in the treatment of type 2 diabetic patients with high cholesterol.

One hundred sixteen patients with type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol randomly received berberine (1.0 g daily) or the placebo for 3 months. Changes in blood glucose, A1C and cholesterol were measured.

In the berberine group, glucose decreased an average of 20%, A1c decreased an average of 12%, and total cholesterol decreased an average of 18%.

The researchers concluded:

“Berberine is effective and safe in the treatment of type 2 diabetes and dyslipidemia.”
