Seventy-seven patients with elevated LDL cholesterol and triglycerides were randomly assigned to a control group receiving placebo, two groups receiving orally administered rosuvastatin, a group receiving Bergamot alone orally (1000 mg/daily) and a group receiving Bergamot (1000 mg/daily) plus rosuvastatin (10mg/daily). The group receiving Bergamot experienced a 41% decrease in LDL cholesterol and a 31% decrease in triglycerides. HDL cholesterol had a favorable increase of 18%. Other favorable results were found in biomarkers for heart disease, suggesting Bergamot as a powerful therapeutic agent against heart disease.
